WeChat, the biggest multi-purpose social media application in Asia

First of all, WeChat is the most important application in China. Some of you may never be heard of WeChat application before. It’s basically China’s version of Facebook in term of social media. Additionally, WeChat is an all-in-one application.  Moreover, it has many features that are a part of the basic needs for daily life. In addition, WeChat can do almost everything to help people’s life easier (Heath, 2015). However, there are many competitors in this space of internet applications such as Line, WhatsApp, Kakao, and Facebook Messenger. As a result, it has to keep up with innovating new features and making the user integrate the application into their daily lives.

Why WeChat is China’s billion-user messaging app?

WeChat application goes beyond social networking because the application features are like combining Whatsapp, Facebook, Viber and Paypal together into one application. So it is very convenience and useful application. Consequently, in China, using mobile applications as a part of daily personal activities as well as business activities has become the social norm for these applications. The following are the core differentiators of the WeChat app as compared to its competitors in the marketplace.

  • The application is available in almost every platform such as Android, iPhone, BlackBerry and Windows Phone platforms. As a result, We Chat is considered to be flexible with many users (Heath, 2015).
  • It offers multiple features such as free calls, free texts, and free video calls. Moreover, can also book a doctor’s appointment, and read the news and etc (Heath, 2015). 
  • It offers full Mobile commerce capabilities inside the application such as sending money to people (Like transfer money from bank to bank), book movie tickets, order delivery food, book flights, book hotels and more (We Chat, 2019)

The Future of WeChat…

          Above all, the number of active users is increasing internationally. As a result, it is becoming more popular in other parts of the world because they trying to promote it internationally.  Moreover, WeChat comes up with many marketing campaigns which are very effective. Besides that, it also offers some small gift for the new users to persuade them. For example, WeChat is providing a free Starbucks gift card if you sign up in North America.

In addition, there are many famous celebrities from many different parts of the world creating their own WeChat profile, including Eva Longoria, Selena Gomez, Maggie Q, Adam Lambert and more. However, with the rich features provided in-app add with the heavy marketing campaign. I believed that this application will become well-known across the world pretty soon (We Chat, 2019).
