How Social Media Can Grow Small Business

How to Utilize Social Media

Social media can truly help a small business take things to the next level. There are many ways to use social media in today’s world that can bring a business success in big ways! Social media gets the word out. Social media spreads brand awareness successfully and cost effectively. In addition, connecting with users of social media builds lasting relationships that can increase word of mouth for a business. “Your fans, followers, and connections are people who know your organization, have likely done business with you in the past, and will most likely tell their friends about you.” (Collier) So, if you aren’t sure where to start with social media for small business, here is a great resource.

One of the most successful ways a business can use social media is by creating goals. Using a checklist to start their strategy in a successful way is a great idea. Another great rule of thumb is to create three objectives that the business would like to accomplish. These objectives can be broken down by creating specific, measurable, attainable, reasonable and timely goals that will ensure the business completes those objectives.

Increasing Reach

Secondly, social media reaches all ages and demographics. So, using a strong social media strategy can connect a company to all users across the world, but more importantly, their target audience! “While the majority of that percentage are aged 18-29, a substantial amount is attributed to other ages that use social media as well, including 34% of Americans 65 and older.” (Collier) Really, anyone can be reached on social media platforms these days. Social media can truly expand the reach of any small business. In fact, using the correct platforms and optimizing a brand for searching can increase reach. Using strong page names, descriptions, keywords and valuable content can help optimize searching for a business and expand the reach.

Customer Service

Lastly, social media is great for customer service. Social media encourages two way communication. This way businesses can respond to feedback immediately. Also, faster communication makes a business look better which increases brand awareness. This fast feedback can correct issues at hand in a prompt matter. Furthermore, relationships will form with brand followers which creates customers for life. All in all, social media is crucial for small businesses in today’s world and it will take a small company to the next level.
